Big anniversary donations

EUR 11,000 for “Horizont” children’s cancer foundation in Borken (mr). “This was the biggest donation this year,” said Silke Weinbrenner, chairperson of “Horizont”, the child cancer foundation in Weseke, when Anja and Bärbel Seibel handed her the symbolic check on Wednesday afternoon.

Borkener Kistenfabrik rounded the donations to “Horizont” made by guests at the company’s 60th anniversary party up to EUR 11,000. The individual donations ranged from 20 to 500 euros. According to the chairman, “Most of the money will go towards a ski holiday for the children undergoing treatment and their siblings and parents.” The objective is to let the family, who are all affected by the cancer treatment, have a chance to do something together, re-energize, and try to get back to their normal lives. The support group at the Münster University Hospital organizes the ski holiday in Kleinwalsertal in Austria.

Weinbrenner says 10,000 euros are needed. Part of the donation will also go to research. Professor Frühwald and Professor Boos are conducting a study to find out more about rhabdoid tumors. These tumors affect mainly young children and have a high mortality rate.

Last year, “Horizont” gave a large portion of its donations –almost 100,000 euros in 2007 – to support this research. Another portion was used to make the wishes of young cancer patients come true.

“We will probably continue this project as well,” the chairperson announced, accompanied by secretary Rita Daum and board member Burkhard Mudrack to present the donation.
